Sri lanka
Having worked in Sri Lanka in the early 1980’s when roads were hardly better than hard clay surfaces, I was determined to go back to this beautiful country. In those days transport was slow but safe in 4-wheel drive British High Commission landrovers. The only danger was at night when the rear of elephants that hogged the roads didn’t carry any lights! In 2019 we returned to spanking new motorways that joined most cities, but driving in Sri Lanka is not for the faint-hearted and needs patience and local experience. It seemed to me that the size of vehicle dictated the right of way as well as which side of the road to use!! Hence we had a driver and although this wasn’t a photographic trip but a retirement holiday, I still wanted to do as much photography as possible. The combination of being driven rather frenetically and not knowing the photographic hot-spots made things difficult. But what a fabulous country and what lovely people.
